TEACHENARY'S JOURNEY

THE PAST, THE PRESENT, AND THE FUTURE

Sometimes we people tend to mismanage our time. We get distracted and disturbed with so many things. For the reason that most of the time we are busy we forget to remember the most important thing to do. We people just go with the flow sometimes. We also think about different situations in the past, the present, and the future. We are too concerned with what was and what will be. There is a saying, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift, that is why it is called the present.”

There are some verses in the Bible that encourage us of what to do.

  1. Philippians 3:13-14 – Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead (the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
  2. Isaiah 43:18-19 – Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
  3. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

Usually the pasts that we remember are the bad ones, the sad ones, the one that most of the time makes us bitter and not better.

Perhaps it was one of the reasons why there is this song called “The Past”

It goes like this. You can sing it if you know the song.

“I must forgive you

You must forgive me too

If you wanna try to put things back the way they used to be

Cause there’s no sense of going over and over

The same things as before

Let’s not bring the past back anymore”

Now please do not misunderstand me, I am not just talking about “love life” here if that’s what plays on your mind right now. The Lord encourages us to forget the past in general. We cannot do anything to change it.

Isaiah 43:18 and Philippians 3:13 say, Forget about the past, do not dwell on it.

Pasts such as;

  1. Your parents did not support you.
  2. Your ex-bf/ex-gf, bestfriend betrayed you.
  3. People discriminated you.
  4. The enemy attacked you, he made you do so worldly things, he made you do vices, like drinking, immorality (talking about sex and drugs), smoking, cursing (bad words or expressions), etc…

Put in your mind that all of those things are your past, and you have to forget about it.

Remembering and thinking about it again cannot bring any positive vibes on you, unless you are thinking about it and realizing that God is indeed great in your life.

I do not really know what your pasts are. Even when a person tells you about their past, do not think of them like that person has not changed, think about the present, about the now that he or she accepted Jesus already. Let us also avoid judging other people about their past because certainly that does not look good. If Jesus looked at us that way, we would never experience salvation.

First point is very simple, “Forget about the past.”

Second point is, Embrace your present.

At the moment is an opportunity to do better. To decide and pursue what is glorifying in the Lord. Your now, determines your future.

Here are situations that hopefully would make you think again.

  1. If you are a student and you are always lazy to study, you might not be successful in studying.
  2. If you are a worker and you do not enjoy working, you might regret the times that you had.
  3. If you are a parent and you did not take care of your children well, you cannot take it back and might not be able to ask for another chance. {Trust me on this, I once asked a second chance, and I never got it. It was all over.}
  4. If you are a follower of Jesus and you do not follow what He is telling you now, you might not be peaceful all your life.

Again, the present is a gift, embrace it, b e thankful everyday! Give thanks to the Lord for He is good and His love endures forever. He has given you today to live for His purpose.

There is a song that appreciates the present, the gift. And it goes like this,

“Winter snow is falling down

Children laughing all around

Lights are turning on, like a fairy tale come true.

Sittin’ by the fire we made

You’re the answer when I prayed

I would find someone and Jesus You found me.

All I want is to hold you forever.

All I need is you more every day.

You saved my heart from being broken apart

You gave your love away

And I am thankful everyday

For the gift”

We need to appreciate and be thankful to God!

When you wake up in the morning, first thing first, give thanks to the Lord.

If God has given you the opportunity, an opportunity that you think will glorify God, grab it, because you might not have another opportunity next time.

One time I had this opportunity to pray for someone. The scene was we were on a beach. This was back in the Philippines, so my friend and I were swimming and beside us were foreigners swimming and playing also. After about 5 minutes they stopped swimming went to the shore and I saw that one of the guys had his shoulder sprained. He cannot move his left shoulder. That moment the Holy Spirit told me to pray for that person but I did not because I was a bit shy. We do not know the people too. That time I had a regret of not taking the opportunity and I can no longer take it back.

Second point, embrace your present.

Do not say, why do I have this situation now, because I believe God has put you there for a reason and a purpose.

You should enjoy your present. Enjoy your present but do not destroy your future.

That goes the third point.

Trust God with your future.

In Jeremiah 29:11 it says there that the plan of the Lord for you and your future is good.

Do not worry about it. If you always worry and think about it, it simply shows that you do not trust God. He is the author of your life, so He knows your beginning and ending.

There is a song that talks about our future…And it goes like this.

“I believe the children are our future

Teach them well and let them lead the way

Show them all the beauty they possess inside

Give them a sense of pride

To make it easier let the children’s laughter

Remind us how we used to be…”

I do not hundred percent agree with this… The future is in God’s hand. Our future belongs to God so we have to trust Him with all of this. Let us not depend on other people about our future. Let us allow God to teach us with it.

Do you want to be…

A doctor?

A policeman?

A teacher?

A businessman?

An engineer?

An architect?

A celebrity?

A superstar?

A pastor?

Trust God with all your heart about the future because I am sure that what He wants for you is way better than what you want for yourself.

During my high school life I dreamed of being a lawyer and a psychologist but God made me a teacher and a businessman. Simply with a purpose,

  1. to win souls and make disciples
  2. to bring Him glory and
  3. to please Him.

“If you go back to your past, you cannot enjoy your present, and your future.”
